Screen Shot 2017-07-26 at 7.37.07 PMFirst Place – Curry County Fair!

The Curry County Fair is held in Gold Beach, OR and is the only fair in Oregon held next to the ocean. If you’ve never seen the ocean from a Ferris Wheel, put it on your list of things to do.  This four day fair, held each year in July, features a rodeo, talent show, motorsports and BMX, 4-H presentations, livestock auction, entertainment and musical acts, a full carnival, and a variety of exhibits. It was the in one of these exhibit buildings where I found my blue first place ribbon next to this piece!

Thank you to the Curry County Fair for great fun and to the judges for this award and recognition..

Turned Wood Pencil HolderFirst Place – Azalea Festival!

I’m humbled and honored to have been among so many incredibly talented artists featured at the 2016 Azalea Festival. It was the first time I had entered any of my work in a competition and I was delighted to win a First Place ribbon in the category of 3D Art.

The winning piece was the first pencil holder that I had ever turned. It was a real beauty, made of maple and African Blackwood. Take a peek here.

This was a fun experience and I’m looking forward to returning next year with a new piece!

My Process

As the turning process takes place, I’ll be choosing certain projects to describe here. I’ll be writing about what type of wood I choose, the tools I used, obstacles and challenges, as well as the ever changing design process.
